once Upon a Time….

A woman with degrees in Children’s Literature and Writing for Children, sat down with a Buffy the. Vampire Slayer tarot deck, wanting only to understand the references to the cards made in YA Fantasy books.

She discovered a whole new kway of telling stories.

The Reader

Hi! I’m Chelsey. I got my MA and MFA at Simmons College in Boston, and have lived in Atlanta, Oxford, and London. Currently, I’m based in Pensacola, FL where my mom, younger brother, and I are owned by two small dogs. Due to a series of disability-related setbacks, I’m not able to work a conventional 9-5. Tarot is one way that I can use the knowledge I’ve accumulated over the years, even the disproportionate section of my brain devoted to Grey’s Anatomy, to help others, and keep myself engaged in the world.

Tone of the Tale

As you might’ve gathered, I don’t read tarot through a very esoteric lens. You may see me mention astrological correspondences, because they inform the meaning given to the cards, but I’m not going to ask your sign. I don’t know what makes a tarot reading resonate. It could be guides and spirits. It could be Jungian or confirmation bias. I don’t think the why matters, as long as you keep in mind that while the cards can absolutely help you see a situation more clearly, ultimately, I’m a stranger reading into pretty pictures on cardboard. A reading should never be the only basis for a major life decision, but it can remind you that you have the strength to make it.

All that said, if you’re looking to connect with ancestors, deities, or spirit guides; if you want to know about a past life, or find out when you’ll get pregnant, then I’m not the reader you want. My readings do dip into the past and future, but I don’t make guarantees. The timeline is constantly changing based on our choices—but the broad strokes are often more predictable than we credit!

Representative Readings

As a queer woman with a rare disability, I rarely see myself reflected in media. I encourage my que(e)rents to choose a deck for their reading, because being able to see themselves, their favorite characters, or their ideal escape in the cards will help them connect with the cards, and give me more insight into who they are.
